Services
Overview
The Free Clinic provdes medical care
to uninsured and underinsured residents of Rockbridge County, the City
of Buena Vista, and the City of Lexington.
The Free Clinic treats adults with acute and chronic illnesses
needing routine medical supervision and medications. A staff nurse
practitioner and volunteer physicians provide care Monday through
Thursday. The Free Clinic does not provide Emergency Services.
All Rockbridge Area Free Clinic visits are limited to current
patients with a valid RAFC
eligibility card.
All Rockbridge Area Free Clinic visits are by appointment only.
General Medical Appointments
Rockbridge Area Free Clinic provides a "medical home" to people
with acute and chronic illnesses needing routine medical supervision
and medications. Volunteer physicians and a staff nurse practitioner
provide this care during scheduled clinics several times each week.
RAFC is not able to provide Emergency Services.
Specialty Care
Individuals needing specialty care such as cardiology,
orthopedic, surgical, gynecological and others may receive
such care in the offices of specialists who accept referrals
from the Rockbridge Area Free Clinic.
Women's Health
Rockbridge Area Free Clinic is especially committed to
providing ongoing support of women's health through regular
screening and follow-up appointments. Monthly clinics are held
for women to get their annual Pap smear and breast exam.
Mammograms are also scheduled. Clinics
organized by staff RN and LPN and run with the assistance of
volunteer female providers to include doctors, nurse
practitioners and nurses.
Pharmacy
Rockbridge Area Free Clinic provides access to
pharmaceuticals through its in-house licensed pharmacy.
Prescriptions written by RAFC physicians are filled in
the pharmacy.
Dental Services
The Free Clinic operates a dental clinic for Free Clinic
eligible patients. Services provided through the dental
clinic include exams, cleanings, fillings and extractions.
Patient Education
The Free Clinic offers instruction based upon patient
needs. Classes on oral health, weight loss, nutrition and
diabetes management are available on an as needed basis.
Group Visits
Diabetic group visits - involves a group of 15 patients.
Patient assessment will be done to include vital signs,
medication updates & renewals and foot exams. Medical
evaluation by Nurse Practitioner. Diabetic counseling by
Registered Dietician. Healthy meal preparation and planning.
Group visits are planned and held by RAFC nursing and pharmacy
staff and pre-med students from W&L.
The Free Clinic does not provide:
- Treatment for mental illness.
- Birth control, pregnancy tests, testing for
sexually transmitted disease including HIV, TB tests - please contact
your local Health Department
- Pre-school physicals
- Disability physicals
- Worker's compensation cases or related injuries
